About the Conference

Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Kelantan and UST Angelicum College (Philippines) in collaboration with Kasetsart University (Thailand), Institut Teknologi Bandung (Indonesia), and Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University (Thailand) cordially invite you to participate in International Conference on Governance, Management & Social Innovation (ICGMSI2023).

This joint conference will be held virtually and face-to-face (hybrid mode) to give participants options and enhance event flexibility. It will be held at UST Angelicum College on  September 20th & 21st 2023. Overcoming Adversity with Digital Resilience is the theme for ICGMSI2023 with the aim of gathering academicians and researchers from related fields to meet and share the ideas, knowledge and innovations. The joint forces of Malaysia, Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand provide a platform for researchers and practitioners from diversified sectors to build various research collaborations at international level.

Prof. Dr. Chaewon Lee

Chaewon Lee is a Professor at the Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Korea. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Kyunghee University in 1996. An alumnus of Kyungpook National University, South Korea’s leading university, she graduated with a Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1998 and subsequently, in 2003, obtained a doctoral degree in Strategy and Entrepreneurship.

She has previously held senior positions, including Director of the Entrepreneurship Education Centre of Seoul National University of Science and Technology and National Team Leader of GEM Korea. She was also a Visiting Professor at Northeastern University in Boston, United Kingdom, and in 2015, she was appointed as a Visiting Scholar at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

Ms. Rhodora Ferrer

Doris Ferrer accomplished her studies through different educational institutions and programs. She obtained a scholarship from the Department of Science and Technology. She received recognition from PNU as a Distinguished Alumna and pursued a Master’s degree in Education with a Major in Physics at De La Salle University. She is currently working on her PhD in Education majoring in Educational Leadership and Management at the same university.

Throughout her career, she spent 18 years at St. Scholastica’s College in various roles, including Physics Teacher, Dean of Student Affairs, and Department Chairperson. She also worked at Manila Science High School and Assumption College HS as a Physics Teacher.

Doris served as the Executive Director of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) from 2009 to 2014. CEAP advised the government on the K to 12 programme. She represented CEAP at national and international conferences, including the International Catholic Education Office. Currently, she is the Executive Director of the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC), managing programmes like the Education Service Contracting and SHS Voucher Programme in cooperation with the Department of Education. PEAC provides training to teachers and collaborates with the National University of Singapore on educational courses.

Doris is also an Independent Director and Corporate Secretary of the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU). She’s involved with non-profit educational institutions and serves on the Advisory Council of EDCOM 2, a committee reviewing the country’s education system. Originally from San Fernando in Pampanga, Doris excelled academically, even completing two grade levels in one school year. Recently, she was honoured with the Outstanding Fernandino Award (TOFA) in education from the City of San Fernando.

Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Ir. Dr Sahol Hamid (Malaysia)

Professor Sahol Hamid Bin Abu Bakar is an accomplished academic and administrator with over 40 years of experience in teaching, research, leadership, and governance. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from UiTM, Malaysia, along with dual Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering and Economics from Colorado State University, USA. In 1992, he earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Sussex, UK. He holds honorary doctorates from the University of Sussex, UK, and the University of Stuttgart, Germany. He was the first Asian to receive an Honorary Doctorate (Dr. Ing.) from the University of Stuttgart.

Starting as a lecturer in 1976, he rose to become the Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia in 2010. He also served as the Vice-Chancellor of B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology, India, the first foreign Vice-Chancellor of an Indian university. He has been a consultant in Ankara, Turkey, and is skilled in leadership, emotional intelligence, organisational intelligence, and blue ocean strategy, successfully implementing these strategies in his leadership roles.

His management and administration expertise includes training prospective Vice-Chancellors in India and other institutions globally. He has conducted training in leadership skills at Oxford, UK, and specialises in transforming universities into entrepreneurial institutions. Currently, he serves as the Vice-Chancellor of UNITAR International University in Malaysia and continues to assist numerous universities. He has received prestigious awards and titles, including Tan Sri and Dato’ Sri in Malaysia, and is a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia and the Institution of Engineers Malaysia.

Prof. Dr. Archanya Rattana-ubol

Professor Dr. Archana Ratana-Ubol is a respected leader in adult education. She organises an annual global conference about lifelong learning and makes significant contributions to her field. She earned her degree from Chulalongkorn University (CU) and completed her doctorate at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. She returned to Thailand and joined the Department of Education at the Open University of Bangkok. There, she introduced Distance Learning for Adult Learners, providing education for those who aren’t in school anymore.

Later, she became a lecturer at Chulalongkorn University, leading the “Lifelong Education” department in 2001. Under her guidance, the department offered various programmes, including undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate courses, earning her the Faculty of Education Alumni Award in 2014.

She arranges an annual International Conference on Adult and Lifelong Learning, starting in 2013. This event at Chulalongkorn University brings together people from 16 countries to talk about sustainable practices, knowledge creation, empowerment, and intergenerational learning. She also began a programme for Thai students to study at Lindenwood University in Missouri since 2013, promoting understanding of adult and lifelong learning from diverse cultures.

Archana’s accomplishments include promoting lifelong learning for elders, establishing learning groups in local communities, and staying updated on global developments in adult education. She has written many articles and books on education and learner-related issues. She has also been invited to speak at key conferences in her field.
